Some confusion still lingers regarding a proposed zoning ordinance to regulate hunt clubs within certain areas of Amherst County. During a meeting last month, the County Attorney said the county currently regulates hunt clubs through its definition of private clubs. The attempt through a new ordinance is to specify the type of private clubs. County residents turned out in force to the Nov. 19 public hearing on the proposed zoning ordinance. According to the New Era Progress, regulating the use of a property is a base of operation and does not impinge on anyone’s right to hunt. The ordinance is slated to return to the board’s agenda for a first reading this month.
