The jobless rate for the Lynchburg area fell in December, according to figures released Wednesday by the Virginia employment Commission. The Lynchburg metropolitan area, defined as the City of Lynchburg and the counties of Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford and Campbell, reported unemployment at 5.3 percent, down slightly from 5.4 percent the month before and much more from 6.2 percent reported in December 2012. But, the seasonally unadjusted rate was still above the state’s jobless rate of 4.8 percent.
