Initial Vote On Gun Permit Fee Change Is Voted Down:

LynchburgCity council this week voted down a bid to lower the concealed gun permit fee. The state allows localities to charge between $15 and $50 for a permit. The $15 minimum goes to the courts and state police. The remainder goes to the locality for the cost of conducting background checks. If the proposal had been approved, the city would collect $10 per permit; and once issued, the permit would have been good for five years. According to the News & Advance, Tuesday’s vote is preliminary. The final budget decisions will be set when the full plan is adopted in May.
