The son of a woman shot and killed in Appomattox last month is seeking an injunction to keep her estranged husband, the suspect in the killing, and a family member from disposing of or transferring any real property or personal property the couple owned. Joseph Bryant, the son of 45 year old, Laura Woody Evans, filed the injunction request on Feb. 7 — Aubrey Evans is accused of the murder. According to the News & Advance, the complaint mentions a Virginia law referred to as the “slayer statute” that prohibits anyone convicted of murder or voluntary manslaughter from acquiring property or profiting a person’s death. Evans awaits a preliminary hearing; a bond hearing has not been set–prosecutors say the commonwealth would oppose if bond was requested.
