A Lynchburg jury last week reached a verdict against a Forest family practitioner in a medical malpractice lawsuit. The suit was filed in October 2011 against Dr. Jarrett S. Dodd and Central Virginia Family Physicians. The plaintiff alleged Dodd breached the required standard of care that caused the loss of a portion of the patient’s foot in 2007 and permanently damaged tissue and muscle below the knee. A jury on Thursday returned the verdict against Dodd; and the court judgment was for $1.8 million which conforms to applicable statutory cap on medical malpractice recoveries. Sources say an appeal is likely.
