From Lynchburg City Schools: Lynchburg – The Lynchburg City School Board has approved the superintendent’s recommendation to hire Mr. Derrick Brown as the new principal for Dunbar Middle School for Innovation.
Since 2012, Mr. Brown has worked as the Assistant Principal for Amherst Middle School where he served on the school improvement team, the student intervention team, the IEP committee, and safety committee.
Prior to his administrative experience, he served as a biology teacher at Amherst County High School.
He is the founder of the I.R.O.N. Leadership and Character Program, which was developed to decrease discipline issues, increase attendance, and raise academic standards. The program has reached a membership of 400 students.
“Mr. Brown has quickly established himself as a creative thinker and dynamic leader in Central Virginia. We are excited to have bring his leadership and passion for students to the Paul Lawrence Dunbar School For Innovation,” said LCS Superintendent Scott Brabrand.
Mr. Brown has a master’s degree in Educational Leadership and is currently working on his doctorate in Leadership Studies, both from Lynchburg College. He received his Alternate Route to Teacher Licensure from the University of Virginia. He has a bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences from Virginia Teach.
