In the court case challenging a 2006 constitutional amendment banning gay marriage, the Dean of Liberty University’s Law School, filed a brief on behalf of Liberty Counsel, urging the court to uphold the voter approved amendment. But, the trial court refused to hear the brief, in the appeal process of the case. Attorney General Mark Herring, last month notified the federal court that he would not defend the ban. The lawsuit was filed shortly after the U.S. Supreme Court struck down the section of the federal Defense of Marriage Act that prevented gay couples from receiving a range of federal benefits that are generally available to married people.
