LYNCHBURG, Va. (AP) _ Liberty University has merged its undergraduate School of Religion and its Baptist Theological Seminary to create a divinity school. President Jerry Falwell says the marriage will make the Liberty University School of Divinity the nation’s largest. Some 20,000 students were enrolled in the once-separate programs in the 2013-14 academic year. Falwell said in a statement the creation of the new divinity school is tied to the university’s mission to train what he calls “champions of Christ” to influence the world. The former dean of the School of Religion, Ed Hindson, has been named dean of the School of Divinity. The School of Divinity will offer a range of degree programs, ranging up to the doctoral level.
