Law enforcement in Amherst and Nelson Counties are among several other local agencies in Central Virginia that will receive money from a legal settlement with Abbott Laboratories. The Amherst County Sheriff’s Office will receive just over $46-thousand-five hundred dollars and plan on purchasing new laptop computers for their patrol vehicles. The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office will receive about 83-thousand-eight hundred dollars to be used for replacing and updating deputy equipment–as well as to purchase in-car cameras for all patrol vehicles. The sheriff’s offices were alerted in November to the fact that they had been awarded the money. The funding is expected to arrive by Jan. 1st.
