A Lynchburg native is facing charges of arson in the Dominican Republic. 35 year old Sherman Hughes, a young educator, has been blamed for a blaze in his condo; spent two days in jail and faces potentially 30 years behind bars. Hughes, a professor of international relations was spending time working to set up an exchange program with American schools. Now, his only options to leave are to pay $10,000, or fight his charge. He is attempting to raise the money while negotiating with the legal system. According to sources, his tourist Visa expires on the 14th, he has a flight back to the states on that date. But it’s likely he’ll remain oversees.
