Amherst Co. Sheriff’s deputy kills cow on US 29, cites hazard to drivers

Amherst CountyFrom the Amherst County Sheriff’s Office: The office responded to State Route 29 in the area of Fletchers Level Road for a black cow running loose in the roadway on December 10, 2015 at approximately 11:44 am. Deputy arrived on scene along with several farm workers to retrieve the cow back in to the pasture. The cow continued to run north in the southbound lane almost causing several accidents. The cow was put down by the deputy on the North side of Tye River Bridge in Nelson County to insure the safety of motorist on the 29 corridor. The owner was notified and farm workers took possession of the cow.
