Baby Steps for New Bedford County School Project

The Bedford County School Board yesterday made a little progress toward a new school to be built in the Liberty attendance zone. The board agreed to give the schools chief financial officer, authority to finalize a purchase of 49 acres for the school near Liberty High School. The board also approved negotiations to begin with a South Carolina-based management firm to oversee construction. All other aspects of the project will be tabled until Jan. 30 when the school board and the supervisors will meet to discuss what kind of facility should be built to best serve the county. The options include a new high school with Liberty being converted to a middle school or a combined middle and high school.
