Bad Winter For Blood Donations

Blood donors are needed–The American Red Cross is facing a shortfall and asking for help to refill their banks; in particular types — O positive and negative; and A negative and B negative. According to administrators from the Mid-Atlantic & Appalachian Blood Services Region, severe winter weather caused blood drive cancellations across 25 states. Blood products already in stock were used to save lives during the severe weather, but banks were not filled as usual with roughly 280 drive cancellations across the country since Jan. 2.
