Bedford County Will Soon Advertise Public Hearing Date Regarding Water Treatment Facility

A public hearing will be planned regarding the proposed property transfer to the Bedford Regional Water Authority for a new water treatment facility. The board adopted a resolution in October to convey a 69 acre plot of Camp 24 land to the water authority to develop a treatment plant as part of a project to draw water from Smith Mountain Lake to the Forest area. The county received the property from the state after it was no longer used as a jail. According to the News & Advance, The agreement required every reasonable effort be made to ensure interconnectivity of the town and county’s water system which merged to create the authority. The resolution requires the authority to pay the county back, prior to construction, for any procedure expenditures related to making the prison camp suitable for development. Bedford County residents will have an opportunity to voice their opinions on the project, but a date has not been set.
