Bypass Project Sparks Debate…Again

The U.S. 29 bypass around Charlottesville has been facing re-energized opposition, just as the project emerges as one of the top priorities this year for Lynchburg-area transportation advocates. Members of the chamber and transportation advocacy group will be meeting with the Virginia Department of Transportation on Tuesday to discuss current project priorities and funding levels. The bypass will be 6.2-mile-long and will circumvent 13 stoplights. To date, more than $50 million in state and federal money has been invested in the project. The group plans to discuss the transportation funding process and road priorities for the Lynchburg District.
