Emergency Service Review Study Shows Improvements Are Needed In Amherst County

amherst county logoA recent study of Amherst County’s emergency services shows room for improvement. The study was authorized by the county’s Board of Supervisors in March and the report was released last month. The findings highlight a number of challenges within the county’s emergency services; acknowledging that the aging population of volunteers and lack of incentives is making it difficult to recruit volunteers. Several suggestions are offered within the report including, restructuring of the Emergency Services Council to enhance leadership capabilities. It also recommends that the county pursue hiring additional personnel such as a grants coordinator and a recruitment and retention officer.
