Evington shooting deaths ruled murder-suicide

Bedford CountyEVINGTON, Va. (AP) _ Police say the deaths of a Bedford County woman and her son have been ruled a murder-suicide. The Bedford County Sheriff’s Office says in a news release that 73-year-old Ruby Laughon died from multiple gunshot wounds. Her son, 48-year-old Brent Laughon, died from a single gunshot wound. Deputies found the partially decomposed bodies in July on property owned by Ruby Laughon in Evington.

Investigators have received the autopsy report from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner’s of Ruby Laughon and Brent Laughon. Rudy Laughon died from multiple gunshots and Brent died from a gunshot wound. The manner of death was ruled murder-suicide.

On Saturday July 19, 2014 at 1:30 p.m., a Bedford County sheriff’s deputies responded to 2478 Tucker Terrace, Evington, Virginia after receiving a call from a neighbor. The callers advise that he went to the address because he had not seen the woman and her son who lived there for several days. When he arrived he found the partially decomposed body of a female in the yard. After arriving on the scene and while checking the area deputies found the remains of a dog and the partially decomposed remains of a male.
