Fido Should Be Confined Until May 30th in Amherst

The springtime dog confinement period for the Town of Amherst is now in effect. According to town code, from April 1 Through May 30, it is illegal for dogs to run at large in the Town of Amherst when not on its owner’s property or under its owner’s immediate control. Dog owners who violate the ordinance are subject to confinement in jail for up to twelve months and/or a fine of up to $2,500. Enforcement falls under the Sheriff’s Office; Animal Control officers are responsible for enforcing Virginia State laws, Amherst County and Amherst Town ordinances that pertain to animals.
