On Friday, July 1, at 10:00 a.m., Lynchburg City Council held its organizational meeting.  During the organizational meeting, City Council elected Joan Foster to serve as Mayor (President of Council) and Councilmember Treney Tweedy to serve as Vice Mayor (Vice President of Council).  Foster is an at-large councilmember. She was elected to City Council in 2002 and served first as Vice Mayor (July 2004 – June 30, 2006) and then as Mayor (July 2006 – June 30, 2012). Foster currently holds the position of Director of Development with Lynchburg Beacon of Hope, an organization which strives to instill in all Lynchburg City Public School students the aspiration to pursue and attain a post-secondary education. Treney Tweedy is an at-large councilmember and was elected in May 2014.  She is a former member of the Lynchburg School Board and currently works with the Eastern Region for Goodwill Industries of the Valleys, a non-profit organization which strives to help people and families in our community achieve a better life through work and independence.
