Jury Recommends Life In Prison For Man Found Guilty In Murder of Estranged Wife

sylvester cheathamA jury has found an Appomattox man guilty of first-degree murder in the beating death of his estranged wife in a Madison Heights motel room last August. 49 year old, Sylvester Matthew Cheatham, admitted in court to killing Arnita Cheatham, but claimed it was in self-defense. The News & Advance reports, the jury recommended a sentence of life in prison and a $20,000 fine on the charge of first-degree murder and one year in prison on the grand larceny charge. A sentencing date is set for June 4.
