Large Crowd Attends VDOT Meeting

VDOTGovernor McDonnell’s transportation bill was the topic of discussion at a public meeting in Lynchburg, Thursday night. The annual VDOT meeting drew more participants than in recent years. Representatives from the Route 501 coalition, a group looking to improve a dangerous stretch of road that runs through parts of Campbell and Halifax Counties joined citizens, law makers, and business owners to hear how funding will be spent on state’s six year improvement plan for road, rail, and transit projects. Improvements to Odd Fellows Road, the Lynchburg Expressway’s intersection with Lakeside Drive, and safety upgrades to U.S. 501 all were recommended for the list of priority highway projects in Central Virginia. The transportation bill will provide VDOT’s Lynchburg district with $188 million to be used over the next six years.
