Liberty to host railroad safety training session

On Monday, July 21, Liberty University will host a training session on railroad emergency response tactics for campus and local emergency personnel at 10 a.m. in the Liberty University Police Department (LUPD) training room in Marie F. Green Hall. The session was coordinated by Liberty’s Office of Risk Management and will be led by representatives from Norfolk Southern.  About 30 workers from LUPD and Lynchburg EMS will be participating.  Training will feature a high-level railroad emergency simulation and instruction on proper procedures, including protocols for specific hazardous chemicals.  The Norfolk Southern railroad runs along the western edge of campus, making joint training with the railroad, the City of Lynchburg, and the university essential.  “As a campus, and as an integral part of the Lynchburg community, we recognize the responsibility we have to be prepared with a coordinated response in the event of a railroad emergency,” said Robert Wells, Liberty’s director of risk management.
