Local Transportation Task Force And State Officials Discuss Train Derailment Safety Measure

Local transportation advocates had a chance to meet with several state officials yesterday before the Commonwealth Transportation Board held a public hearing in Lynchburg on its six-year plan. The state’s Transportation Secretary— just appointed co-chair of the new rail safety task force prompted by the train derailment in Lynchburg — was at both events and laid out some of the state priorities. A task force will hold its first meeting June 4 and will examine how the state can better prepare and respond to such emergencies.
