Melted Snow Will Be Black Ice By Morning

The winter storm that slid off the East Coast last night left us snow coated across the region this morning. Snow fall totals varied depending how far west you live. Accumulations ranged from ¼ inch to an inch in areas of Bedford County; an inch to two inches through areas of Campbell County; up to just under 3 inches in Pittsylvania and Halifax Counties. Due to frigid temperatures, much of the snow that fell overnight could stick around in some places for up to two days. Some melting will take place today thanks to the sunshine– but daytime highs aren’t expected to get above freezing. Anything that melts today will freeze tonight as lows dip to the single digits. Officials caution motorists to watch for black ice tonight and early Thursday. To check road conditions visit: www.511virginia.org
