Peaks of Otter Lodge Enjoying Winter Hours

It has been a tumultuous year for the Peaks of Otter lodge. The lodge reopened under new management on July 11 – but, because the lodge sits on National Park Service land, it had to close three months later. The October government shutdown came during the busiest season for the lodge. In the mid 1900s, the location was selected for special attention as the National Parks Service developed recreation and service areas along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Abbott Lake was constructed and Peaks of Otter Lodge opened in 1964. Last month, lodge administrators announced the plan to be open every Friday through Sunday from December 1 to April 11. The lodge will be closed Monday through Thursday. New winter hours are under way and a special celebration is planned for New Year’s Eve.
