Planned Burn in Amherst County Will Last Through Spring

amherst county logoForestry officials have planned a series of controlled burns for certain areas of the George Washington Forest in Amherst County. The Forest Service says the department tries to achieve certain objectives during prescribed burns, such as reducing the intensity of future wildfires by decreasing potential fuel sources and encouraging the regeneration of certain plant species. The affected area is located on the top of Cole Mountain in the Mount Pleasant Scenic Area. The burns will take place through May 15– weather permitting; certain parameters are followed in planned burns, including atmospheric conditions and wind direction.
