UPDATE: Lynchburg police to seek charges against Heritage student for gun on school property

Lynchburg PoliceUPDATE From Lynchburg Police: As a result of information already obtained during this investigation, the Lynchburg Police Department will be seeking charges related to carrying a weapon on school property.
PREVIOUSLY: On November 4, 2016 at approximately 9:30 a.m., the School Resource Officer at Heritage High School began investigating an incident in which a student was in possession of a handgun on school property. Thus far, the investigation has revealed that when the handgun was located, it was not being displayed, brandished, or otherwise used in a manner that was threatening to others and it was not brought openly to school. The handgun was not loaded at the time it was found. At this time, it appears this is an isolated incident and it is not believed there is any danger to faculty or students. School Resource Officers are continuing their investigation.
