Public Speaks Out Against Tax Increase In Appomattox County

Over a dozen residents in opposition to a proposed 6-cent real estate tax increase in Appomattox County attended a public hearing on Monday. About 2.5 cents of the proposed increase is needed to cover lost revenue from decreased property values in the reassessment. According to the News & Advance, 13 of the 14 speakers spoke out against the increase; some going as far as questioning the efficiency of the Board of Supervisors’ and schools’ spending. The last time the rate increased was in 2012. The Board of Supervisors will vote on the budget and tax rate May 5 at the regular meeting.
