Renters Beware of Listing Scams

Rental listing scams have become more common in recent years. Scammers often advertise rentals that don’t exist. Authorities say the scammers frequently copy information and pictures from actual listings and create a fake house for rent post. Scammers will typically ask for a money order for rent or a deposit up front. Authorities warn people to be suspicious if the renter is not asking for an application fee or running a background check.
