SML Pipeline Lawsuit Dropped

A Bedford business is dropping a lawsuit against the Bedford Regional Water Authority. In an effort to halt construction on water treatment plant; a regional project to transport water by pipe from Smith Mountain Lake to Bedford and from Bedford to Forest along U.S. 460–Bedford Weaving, Inc. filed an injunction last month; claiming the creation of the BRWA, did not properly specify the project as called for in the Virginia Water and Waste Act. On Friday, an attorney representing the company filed a motion for a non-suit. Part of an agreement that changed the former city to a town and part of Bedford County last July calls for a backup water source for the town. The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality has issued a final permit for the project.
