SML’s Pipeline Is Not A Welcomed Idea For All

Bdfrd Rgnl Water AuthorityIt’s full speed ahead as the proposed water pipeline from Smith Mountain Lake to Forest moves forward into the next stage…but officials and residents are saying not so fast! Lake businesses and residents are expressing a variety of concerns about the pending water pipeline… such impact on the lake itself, in particular the potential environmental strain from draining the lake water levels. But, it is the requirement issued by the Bedford Regional Water Authority for mandatory hook-up to the waterline, if properties do not meet exemption condition, which has become a bone of contention. Other residents have been critical of the project and fear it could have negative economic consequences; while still more criticize the project’s cost to Bedford County taxpayers. The Bedford Board of Supervisors last week gave the green light by voting in favor of transferring 69 acres of land to the BRWA for the purpose of building the proposed water pipeline.
