Bedford County Resident Express Concerns About a Proposed Change to the Zoning Ordinance

Supporters and protestors turned out Monday night in Bedford county to speak their minds regarding a proposed change to the zoning ordinance pertaining to large-scale animal farming.  The revision to the existing policy would accommodate commercial feedlots or confined animal feeding operations by adjusting distance requirements from residential subdivisions, public schools, and churches.  Sources say the Ag Board hopes to make it an option to farmers who want to open their business up to commercial producers. The county’s planning commission still needs to finalize the proposal.
