Sweet Briar Looking At Ways To Bring the Pollinators

An environmental project at Sweet Briar College looks to draw pollinating insects …WHILE producing grasses to be converted into a fossil fuel alternative. Biofuels are alternative fuel sources; and the college is working to convert several hundred acres of its grounds for the study. Experts say pollinators are vanishing worldwide at an alarming rate. Switchgrass will be planted to attract the insects, such as monarch butterflies; and once harvested, it will be processed to be used in boilers. Sweet Briar officials say, the grasses also are good at filtering pollutants, enhancing water quality.
