The Search Is On For Ambulance Provider

Lynchburg officials have opted to begin the process of searching for agencies interested in providing non-emergency ambulance transports in the city. The Lynchburg Fire Department looks to discontinue handling of non-emergency calls in order to focus on the growing demand for emergency services. Centra Health, the only outside organization certified to provide the service, already handles many of the city’s non-emergency transports and recently proposed becoming an exclusive provider. According to the News & Advance, the City Attorney and City Council yesterday expressed discomfort with that option and decided instead to work out details for the application process and establish requirements. Interested agencies would have to meet state licensing requirements and qualify for a local certification.
