Zinc Levels Down In Appomattox Water

The U.S. 460 waterline, partnered with the application of lime, has been credited to helping decrease zinc amounts in the discharge water at the sequential batch reactor plant in the Town of Appomattox. Officials were informed earlier this month by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality that the town will no longer be under a consent order because the town has been consistently maintained low zinc levels at the SBR plant. The town had been under a consent order for 10 years. According to the Times Virginia, the town has been using lime for the past 18-months; the success of the application has been recognized nationally.
