Liberty University’s vehicular tunnel is in its final stage. Planners were working to have construction vehicle traffic moving through the Harvard Street tunnel over the weekend. The 130-foot-long passageways beneath the Norfolk Southern railway tracks replace the entrance near the Sonic Drive-In. The News & Advance reports, more than 7,000 vehicles currently use that entrance daily. The road will eliminate the need for many U-turns on Wards Road and provide drivers another way to access U.S. 460. According to the article, the pair of tunnels will open to the public in time for LU’s graduation ceremony May 9.
