From Lynchburg City: Lynchburg residents have the opportunity to answer the City’s question, “How are we doing?” in a short community survey. Information gathered from the survey will be used several ways. According to Mayor Joan Foster, the results will serve as one of the tools in helping City Council and staff understand how citizens gauge collective efforts in making Lynchburg “A great place to live, work and play.” The deadline for participation in the survey is October 25, 2016. “The results of this community survey, along with the input we receive from citizens when we conduct the biennial Citizens Survey in 2017, will give City Council a wealth of information and will help us make better decisions regarding how we consider funding choices for services, programs and capital improvements,” said Mayor Foster.

The survey is based on a report compiled by staff for City Council regarding the 12 areas or pillars that support Council’s vision of making Lynchburg a “great place to live, work and play. Those pillars are: Arts and Culture, Citizen Engagement and Social Capital, Economic Development, Healthy and Active Living, Infrastructure, Land Use, Lifelong Learning, Natural and Environmental Resources, Neighborhoods, Safe Community, Social Equity, and Transportation. The survey lists examples of accomplishments in each of the 12 pillars to assist citizens in determining what they believe the City’s progress has been from July 1, 2015 – June 30, 2016.
