wlni-defaultFrom Lynchburg Police: UPDATE – November 15, 2016: The victims in this incident are identified as 20- year-old Dae’ron Smith and 21- year- old Jaumal Wilkerson, JR. both from Lynchburg. On 11-14-16, Dae’ron Smith succumbed to his injuries and passed away at VCU Medical Center in Richmond. The second victim, Jaumal Wilkerson was treated for his injuries and subsequently released from the hospital. The Lynchburg Police Department is continuing to investigate this incident. PREVIOUSLY: On November 3, 2016, at approximately 1:05 a.m., Lynchburg Police Department patrol officers responded to the 1400 block of Tenbury Drive to investigate multiple reports of shots being fired with possible victims being shot. On arrival, officers found 2 male victims (ages 20 and 21) on the ground in front of a townhouse with multiple gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to Lynchburg General Hospital and are currently in critical condition. Witnesses described both suspect shooters as black males, 5’9 to 6’0, thin build: one wearing a red hoodie and one wearing a gray hoodie; both wearing jeans. Both suspects were seen running from the area possibly toward Ashbourne Drive. At this time, multiple Lynchburg Police Department units are continuing to investigate including Criminal Investigations, the Community Action Team, and Patrol. To gain as much information as possible, Officers and Detectives will be patrolling and canvasing various neighborhoods to speak with community members.
