LYNCHBURG, Va. (AP) — A Virginia man who admitted stealing vanilla ice cream during a church break-in has been sentenced to two years and one month in prison. Forty-year-old Matthew Thomas Beale of Lynchburg was sentenced recently in Campbell County Circuit Court for his guilty plea to statutory burglary, destruction of property and petit larceny. The News & Advance reports Beale was found with the ice cream when he was arrested along a road on July 24. Prosecutors say Beale also took other food items from the First St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, and church officials say he kicked in two doors and damaged a television. The cleanup and replacement costs totaled about $2,000.
