Lynchburg Police Captain John Sweeney is retiring after 29 years of service. Sweeney started his career in 1986 and has served the Department in the Field Operations Bureau, Crime Prevention Unit, as a K9 officer and was most recently instrumental in bringing the Crisis Intervention Team training to the Central Virginia area. Sweeney was promoted to Lieutenant in 2007 and promoted to Captain in 2011. Sweeney’s last day is today.
