From Lynchburg Police: On Monday, November 2, 2015, Lynchburg Police Officer Jon DeBlock was indicted by the Lynchburg Circuit Court Grand Jury on three counts of Obtaining Money by False Pretenses. On July 31, 2015, the Lynchburg Police Department (LPD) became aware of information pertaining to these indictments. This information was discovered by a police department supervisor through internal control measures already in place. At that time, the Virginia State Police were immediately notified and asked to conduct a criminal investigation into this matter. At the same time, Officer DeBlock was placed on administrative leave, pending both the Virginia State Police investigation and an internal investigation conducted by our department. The LPD Professional Standards Division has completed an internal investigation into the matter which has been reviewed by the LPD Command Staff, including Acting Chief Stokes. Incoming Chief Diaz has been briefed on the matter.
Officer DeBlock remains on administrative leave with pay as the LPD provides due process in review of his employment status. Officer DeBlock has been employed by the LPD since January, 2000 and holds the rank of Master Police Officer. He is assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division. The Lynchburg Police Department conferred with the Lynchburg Commonwealth’s Attorney, Mike Doucette on this matter. Mr. Doucette asked the Greensville County Commonwealth’s Attorney, Patricia Watson to serve as the special prosecutor for this case. No further information will be released at this time
