From the City of Lynchburg: The Department of Water Resources is alerting Lynchburg City residents of a telephone scam operation regarding water utilities. Callers will demand residents to pay a large fee in order to avoid having their water disconnected, or will indicate the fee is for late payments on water bills or for the installation of mandatory digital water meters. The calls are being made from telephone number (434) 336-3428. Residents are advised that these are not legitimate phone calls from City of Lynchburg personnel. Anyone receiving such calls should not give out any personal information, including credit card numbers. Report any suspected fraudulent calls to the Federal Trade Commission at 1-888-382-1222.
