From the City of Lynchburg: On Tuesday, March 1, 6:30 p.m., at the Holiday Inn, 601 Main Street, City officials will provide citizens with an update on the Downtown Utility and Streetscape Project set to begin construction in April 2016. The project team will provide information regarding schedule, detours, and construction activities as well as the updated plans for the streetscape design and the plan for public outreach. Improvements scheduled for downtown include replacing aged underground water, sewer, and storm drainage piping and adding new streetscape features such as sidewalks, crosswalks, landscaping and lighting. The goal is to create a pedestrian and business friendly space and a sustainable downtown.

The first phase of the project will cover eight segments. This includes Main Street between Fifth and Eighth Streets, Church Street between Fifth and Eighth Streets, and both Seventh and Eighth Streets between Main and Church. With this project, the City will prepare the infrastructure for future growth in the downtown area that has already seen an increase in loft development.
