Lynchburg School Superintendent Scott Braband has sent a letter home to all Dunbar Middle School families in response to community concerns over last Friday’s Black History Month observance. In it, Braband says the program’s content was not religious in nature, and the inclusion of some gospel music in it was to reflect its importance during the struggle for civil rights. He says school officials are investigating claims that the staff member who disrupted the program did so on the basis of objections to religious content in a public school — and “appropriate measures will be taken if warranted in accordance with school board policy.”
