The report cites over 300-thousand pounds of toluene, released by RR Donnelly, as the major contributor to the city’s placement on the list. The News & Advance reports, the emissions are within levels allowed by state and federal law. According to the article, Slocum Adhesives, Parker Hannifin and Banker Steel are other Lynchburg firms listed in the Sierra Club query as reporting toxic emissions to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Overall, Virginia is ranked 22nd in the country in toxic emissions.
