Madison HeightsIt’s been nearly a decade and some businesses in Madison Heights are still feeling the hit from the bypass. Certain shop owners along U.S. 29 business experienced a 30-percent decline in revenue following the opening of the bypass in October of 2005 many say they’ve never fully recovered. A request was made 2008, to the statewide directional signage committee for an exception to maximum distance policy guidelines to be on such signs require businesses must be NO more than three miles away from an interchange when many in the area were located 3.1 to 3.5 miles from the nearest bypass access. County officials believe the bypass…will ultimately be a stimulus for economic activity in the area.
