The man arrested last week at the Lynchburg Regional Airport for having a loaded handgun in his carry-on luggage has been sentenced to 50 hours of community service. 67 year old Raymond Kern of Indiana also had his gun taken away and paid an $81 fine. Kern, a retired judge and flight instructor, was flying to Indianapolis through Charlotte, when TSA agents, using a checkpoint X-ray machine, spotted a .38-caliber gun loaded with five rounds in a side pocket of his baggage. Sources say the case is under advisement for one year; Kern will get his gun back once the community service is complete.
