An Amherst man faces charges in connection with the sexual battery of a child. The News & Advance reports, police arrested 49 year old, Gary Paul Smith, on June 23. Smith was charged with two counts of aggravated sexual battery for a victim under the age of 13 years. The charges were filed as a result of an ongoing investigation that began in April. Smith is held without bond at the Blue Ridge Regional Jail in Madison Heights
