GavelA Lynchburg man will spend 30-years in prison for the stabbing death of another man nearly two years ago. 46 year old, Jose Antonio Maldonado, pleaded guilty in January to first-degree murder in the killing of Mark Augustus Rowley during a fight on the Grace Street overpass in September of 2012. A court-ordered mental evaluation was performed on Maldonado and he was found competent to stand trial. Defense said he stabbed the victim in the abdomen, but was not aware of the extent of the damage. The dispute reportedly was over beer money and Xanax pills. Maldonado apologized to Rowley’s family. The judge sentenced him to 50 years and suspended 20 years.
