The man that admitted to cutting a dog’s tongue out in Appomattox County will spend the next 60 days in jail and pay $1,300 in restitution. Steven Gregory Jones Jr. pleaded guilty in October to one felony count of animal cruelty related the injury and eventual death of a dog belonging to his neighbors. After denying a request to withdraw his guilty plea, a judge sentenced Jones yesterday to 12 months in jail, with all but two months suspended. Jones apologized for setting the hunting trap that the dog’s tongue got caught in. Jones said he didn’t intentionally set the trap to injure the dog, but sources say the trap was illegally set on property that he was told not to hunt on.
